Universities in USA to Consider

When you finally have the ability to step up on a stage and snag a high school diploma, you’re stoked to say the very least. This is a natural part of life. However, you know what else this means. It’s time to begin considering Universities in USA and abroad. Have you put any thought into what college you may be interested in? Well, if you’re still in high school, you certainly have a bit of time left. On the other hand, if you’ve already graduated, you’ll surely want to get on the ball.

Stop for a moment to think about all the Universities in USA. Regardless of where you reside, you literally have countless options at your fingertips. Let’s say you live in Kansas. This definitely doesn’t mean that you have to attend a university in Kansas. While it would be beneficial in a way, since in-state tuition is so much less than out of state college fees, you can still acquire scholarships and grants to assist you in attending a University outside of your state. So many Universities in the USA offer online courses now days. What does this mean you may ask? Well, it basically means that you can take classes on the web. How much more convenient can you get. Ponder sitting at home or in your apartment and taking a class on your personal computer. More and more Universities in USA are offering this option. Check any school you’re interested in to see if they offer them.

Don’t be discouraged by expensive Universities in the USA. Sure, some colleges do cost more than others, but that doesn’t mean they’re out of reach for you. You must keep in mind your high school grades. The better you do in high school, the more likely you will get into the college of your choice. Think about all of the scholarships out there that are offered to kids with excellent GPAs. Then there are federal and state grants to take advantage of. Never pay for Universities in USA or abroad if you don’t have to. Nothing beats a free education.

Federal Student Loans

I have found that there is one thing that we can count on, life is unpredictable. I was an excellent student in high school and college. When I completed college I was hired by a company with a great reputation and was paid a good salary. I met a wonderful man that I married. When I got pregnant we agreed that I would work only part time so that I could spend more time at home with the baby. Shortly after our first child was a year old I got pregnant again. We were thrilled about having a second child. Shortly after the birth of our second child my husband was killed in a car accident. I was left to single parent two children with limited resources.

As the children aged we managed to get along with the money I made. I was not able to put extra time into my career to get into the higher salary bracket because I am in a competitive field. My children had only one parent I was not going to spend all my time developing a career. As my oldest reached the age where he was looking into colleges I began to panic about funding. I spoke to the high school guidance counselor and was told about the federal student loans programs. The counselor said there were many different scholarships available for different career choices. The federal student loans site was a great place to research many different types of financial aide that many students do not realize are available. The counselor was aware of our family history and knew that I was overwhelmed with parenting and my career. He offered to do some research with my son regarding federal student loans. I was very grateful to him for taking the time and interest in my son’s education.

My son came home with several different forms to fill out for financial aide. He told me that he and the counselor had found a scholarship through the federal student loans programs that he may qualify for. The school had to make a recommendation on his behalf and the counselor was willing to do this. After completing all the paper work and waiting several weeks my son was interviewed for the scholarship. After waiting several more weeks we were informed that he was granted the scholarship. As long as he maintains a B grade point average he will get his tuition paid for. I was so thankful to the counselor for suggesting the federal student loans programs. Having the tuition taken care of is a great burden off of me and my son. I know that some how in the future we will be able to give back in some way for the generous scholarship. It makes me feel that I am entering a more positive time in life.

Baltimore Community Colleges

Community colleges are not just valuable educational institutions but an integral part of a community, adding to the cultural life of a town. There are two Baltimore community colleges, offering a wide range of studies, and both are very respected in the academic and vocational fields.

Baltimore City Community College began life as a Junior College in 1947 and was part of the public school system to educate returning servicemen from World War II. The college re-located in 1967 and changed its name to The Community College of Baltimore and became an independent institution. The campus was expanded in the 1970s and was renamed again in 1992, when it became the Baltimore City Community College and received its funds from the state of Maryland. The three campuses for this sector of Baltimore community colleges are in the Mondawmin area of the city, the Reistertown Road Plaza and the Inner Harbor site.

The college has 31 degree courses and 28 certificate programs. Courses include healthcare, dental hygiene, nursing and physical therapy. There are also courses in telecommunication, information technology, business administration, criminal justice and hospitality. The sporting life of this representative of Baltimore community colleges includes men’s and women’s basketball teams, men’s baseball and women’s volleyball teams.

The Community College of Baltimore County offers associate Degrees and Certificate Programs. This college also has three major campuses, sited at Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex. There are also extension centers at Hunt Valley and Owings Mills. The Dundalk campus is home to the Baltimore County Police Training Academy. Courses at the college include anthropology, biology, electrical engineering and environmental science. There is also computer science and hospitality management and the arts are represented by courses in fine and applied art, dance, music and theatre. Online tutoring is available in computer studies and math.

Sport is actively pursued here too with teams in baseball, basketball, lacrosse, soccer, volleyball and softball. The Dundalk campus has a multi purpose stadium, gymnasium, baseball stadium and swimming pool. The Essex campus contains indoor marked courts, a weight training room, hard tennis courts and a multi purpose stadium. Baltimore community colleges prepare students for the world of work on campuses equipped with state of the art technology. There is an active social life and organized activities for sport and the arts. The Alumni Society at each college supports students after they have left. Both colleges have different things to offer and Baltimore is the richer for them.

Argosy University

In 2001, three separate educational institutions merged to form the Argosy University with campuses in 18 locations and in 12 US states. These previous educational establishments brought their excellent reputation with them. The University is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission and offers Doctoral, Masters and Bachelor’s Degrees in four faculties. These are the College of Psychology and Behavioral Science, the College of Education, the College of Business and the College of Health Sciences. Health Sciences students can also study for an Associate Degree. The 2008 Spring semester begins on January 7th and continues until April 19th. After a two week break, the Summer semester will begin.

Campus locations are widespread and include Seattle, Phoenix, Denver, Chicago and Atlanta. Learning at the Argosy University is flexible to make it easier for students with full time or part time jobs. Classes on campus are held during the day, evening and weekends and online courses are also available. A Distance Learning program is in operation at Sarasota, which combines distance learning with classes on campus.

Applicants for a place at the University are welcome to attend information sessions and to meet current students. They can also make a tour of the campus. The requirements for entry are with regard to educational achievements and career goals. International students are most welcome, meeting the same criteria and the University also accepts applicants from the armed forces.

The four disciplines involve programs that teach academic elements and practical application. The Psychology program includes Clinical Psychology, Sports Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy. Health Sciences includes Medical Laboratory Technology, Radiation Therapy and Dental Hygiene. The Education course prepares students to be teachers and administrators in education. Qualifications are gained in Educational Leadership, Instructional Leadership and Community College Executive Leadership. The Business College at Argosy University has courses designed by leaders in the business world, teaching business theory and applied practice.

Students embarking on online programs can access Student Support Services for assistance. The Student Support Center provides phone and email contact and there is a 24 hour technical support for the classroom activities. There is also an Academic Advisor and a Mentor Professor. Students can communicate with each other by networking and through group discussion forums. Online tutors and guest speakers deliver the program and there is an online library and career service. Learning is interactive at Argosy University and students are involved in text, video, real time chats and animation.
